1954 Ford Skyliner Ford introduced their post-war sedans in 1949. They were dubbed the shoebox Fords and were the most modern looking vehicle produced in the era. By 1954, they had evolved into a beautifully styled sedan. The Crestline series was the top-of-the-mark model with the Skyliner and Victoria being the premium offerings. The acrylic-glass-roof Skyliner was marketed as "The Most Distinctive Car under the Sun and is very rare in todays marketplace as only 13,300 were produced in 54. This mostly original Skyliner is a stunning example of the model. It has benefited from a careful exterior respray of two-tone original Raven Black/White (codes A-M) and has outstanding chrome and stainless. Its classic lines are nicely accented by 15" steel wheels w/full wheel discs, new wide-white BFGoodrich bias tires, and rear fender skirts. All logos, mirrors, and bumper guards are Crestline correct. The interior has been refreshed with the original hounds tooth upholstery pattern. A turned-metal dash, headliner and carpeting are all outstanding. The original radio is still in the dash, but needs TLC. The Skyliner is powered by Fords then newly introduced 239ci Y-block OHV V8 (U-code) rated at 139hp with 193lb/ft. Said to be the factory motor, everything under the hood looks original. It is equipped with a Holley 2-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust - sounds great. The Y-block is backed by a Ford-o-Matic 3-speed automatic with column shift. The electrical system is the generator-based 6-volt setup w/HD battery and 4-wheel drum brakes provide stopping power. The chassis is very clean with a new fuel tank, new exhaust and coil-over suspension components.
