1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Newport hardtop in its
original colors of Canyon Tan and Dessert Sand. This ’55 Chrysler is about 95%
original and unrestored with 72,000 miles showing on the odometer.
All of
the paint and color you see in the door jams or engine compartment are original.
No rust bubbles, patch panels, or rot.
According to the present owner, who purchased it in
2012, the chrome (both exterior, interior, and wire wheels), interior (leather
seats), body panels, engine, transmission, rear differential, side glass and
rear window are original to the car.
There appears to be no bodywork, the stainless-steel
side trim and chrome look fantastic. The unmolested 331 cubic inch / 250 h.p. Hemi
engine starts, runs, and shifts smoothly (and quietly) through the 2-speed
Power Flight automatic transmission which is shifted by the dashboard shift
lever that only came in 1955 Chryslers. Please note the chrome spark plug
covers and the stainless-steel roof visor which were options in ‘55.
All the factory gauges function except the clock. The
AM radio has been converted to an AM/FM stereo but looks factory. There is also
a CD changer located underneath the passenger side front seat which can be
operated remotely (remote shows under dash).
Some minor maintenance was done which includes new
shocks, dual exhaust, power brake master cylinder, brakes, radial tires, and a
Pertronics electronic ignition. It still runs on a 6-volt charging system and
all the interior and trunk courtesy lights work too.
Although it cannot be proven, this must be one of the
most beautiful and original 1955 Chrysler New Yorker’s around today. You will
not be disappointed.
