Vehicle Description

1957 Chevrolet Corvette Fuelie 283 CID V8 Fuel Injected 4 Speed Manual.   Milage 2758 (since rebuilt)     2 Door Convertible in Onyx Black/Silver with Red Interior.  Options:  Manual Convertible Top, Seatbelts, Radial tires, Vinyl Interior and mechanical fuel injection.  For sale in our North Carolina showroom is a beautiful '57 Chevrolet Corvette Fuelie Convertible.  A black beauty complimented with silver coves and more chrome than a new Harley.  One of the most aggressively styled & sought after designs of the '50's & still in high demand today.  You'll be hard pressed to find a cleaner, nicer looking car that defines the era of big fins and high style.  The power plant & transmission are the correct factory specs with the first factory fuel injection system by Chevrolet, known to the hobbyist as the "FUELI."   The fuel injection pushed these 283 CID V8 engines to 1 horsepower per cubic inch, which was almost unheard of in '57.  The fuel injected 283 is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission that lets you hold the reins on this classic sports car.   The sweet rumble of the newly installed exhaust system is music to the ears and lets you know the car is no slouch.  The completely refurbished red interior is clean & comfortable for cruising the town or to the local car show.  This Corvette is outfitted with a factory hardtop, but also includes a new soft top for those cool fall nights & sunny days.  It's your choice since both are included.  Repainted around 10 years ago, she still shows very well with only minor imperfections.  The underside is clean and solid, and the goal was to leave the vehicle as orginal as possible.  The top dash was NOT repainted for fear of breaking the windshield during removal.  This is the original glass, and the body was stripped to bare fiberglass during
the repaint and shows no signs of ever having even minor repairs to the body.
Want to own a beautiful piece of history?  Well here it is!  This 1957 all original Chevrolet Corvette FUELI  is a 283-fuel injection with 283 HP.  It has a 4-speed transmission *close ratio* and is finished in BLACK ONYX with racing red interior.  It has a manual fabric top and a removable hard top.   Hutchkiss drive with unit balanced tubular propeller shaft.  Independent coil spring front suspension with full anti-friction steering gear.  Glass fiber reinforced plastic body with sculpted side panels equipped with luggage locker with spare tire (under floor).   With only 88578 original miles.

This 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible demonstrates the early edition of America’s Sports Car at its very best. The 1957 Corvette was the direct result of two years of intense development by Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov and his handpicked team of engineers—to say nothing of the early racing efforts lead by veteran driver John Fitch—to turn the car into a genuine racing threat on the international stage. Central to this all-encompassing effort was the development of a mechanical fuel-injection system that would meet the parameters laid out by Arkus-Duntov and his close friend, GM Engineering Staff’s power development expert John Dolza.
Together, they envisioned a system Dolza described in an SAE paper as “capable of correcting even 50 percent of the average carburetor deficiencies,” producing “a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy that would result in substantial savings to the customer.” Beyond those obvious consumer benefits, the Arkus-Duntov and Dolza system had already delivered a record Pikes Peak run in 1955 (in a disguised 1956 Chevrolet) and a 150 MPH flying mile record run at Daytona in February 1956. Further development produced an improved fuel metering system that was both simpler and less costly than the more expensive and complicated aircraft-inspired setup it replaced.
While performance gains to the 265 CI small-block V-8 had been impressive, the results using the same Rochester fuel-injection system on the 283 CI version planned for 1957 were nothing less than startling, a fact borne out in this first-year Corvette Fuelie convertible. An older but well-preserved frame-off restoration, it offers collectors the perennially desirable combination of two-tone Onyx Black paint with Inca Silver side coves and a bright red interior. A radio- and heater-delete car with a folding soft top, wide whitewall tires and the correct fuel-injected 283 CI V-8 mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, this splendid 1957 Fuelie is a no-nonsense, high-performance sports car equipped to drive and enjoy.
