Vehicle Description

1961 Cadillac Town Sedan - Short Deck. While it looks like any other Sedan de Ville, youll notice that it is somehow a little different. Theres the positioning of the tailfin kick up, and the trunk lid is not the same as those on other 1961 Cadillacs. Thats because this is one of only 3,756 examples of the 1961 Cadillac Sedan de Ville produced with a shorter trunk, which reduced its overall length by seven inches. Search the internet and youll find that not many of the Short Decks exist anymore. All examples were built mid-year in 1961 and were 6 window pillarless hardtop Sedan de Ville models and considered by some to be the first truly downsized American luxury sedan. Referred to as the Town Sedan and according to some interpretations of Cadillac folklore, was created at the behest of well-heeled buyers who needed a Cadillac that could fit into San Franciscos cramped parking accommodations. This mostly original Florida 4 door sedan owned by the current owner since 2006 and showing 48k on the odometer was originally black but was been repainted in a beautiful light gray metallic prior to purchase. The paint is in overall very nice condtion with some minor imperfections as shown. All original interior with black cloth and leather seating in very nice overall condition with no rips or tears, headliner in very nice condition, new carpets with Cadillac insignia and instrumental panel including full gauges and clock in great condition and functioning as they should. The dash does have a crack and another imperfection as shown. The car features the powerful and reliable 390CID 16 Valve OHV V8 with a Rochester #701930 4-bbl downdraft Quadrajet with equalized manifold, mechanical fuel pump, polyurethane air filter, intake silencer, and automatic choke. The engine has a cast iron block and heads, five main bearings, and hydraulic valve lifters. Other standard features include Power Steering, Brakes, Windows and antenna. Factory AC and AM radio. The owner notes that the AC is not currently functioning. The car also features an aftermarket stereo with CD with controls mounted in the glove box. New gas tank with new sending unit. Owner also added the iconic Trumpet horn to the vehicle. All the panels line up nicely on the car and all of the chrome and badging on the car is intact and in very nice condition. The upholstered trunk compartment is in excellent condition and equipped with stereo controls, original jack and tools along with full size spare and wheel chocks. Undercarriage of the car is very clean with some minor surface rust only. The car rides on extra wide whitewall tires mounted on aftermarket Cadillac chrome spoke wheels which was a touch the current owner preferred. The wider tires improve the handling and ride of the car and the original hub caps have been retained for a new owner to switch back to if desired. Owner notes that Odometer stopped working some time ago and estimates that he has driven 12-15K miles more than what the odometer is currently showing. Car has always been garaged and properly maintained and is a very nice example of the Short Deck Cadillac.
