Vehicle Description

1963 Dodge Polara 500 Max Wedge Convertible Blue RWD

That’s what is here: one of only 15 Polara 500 convertibles produced in 1963 with the 426/415 HP Max Wedge engine. Listed in Darrell Davis' “Ramcharger Guide,” this car is estimated to be one of only two known to exist in this color combination as well, with verification by the original fender tag and a copy of the IBM card. This car received a concours-grade restoration that was completed in 2005 using the original body panels. Beneath the steel hood is a 426 CI Dodge Ramcharger Max Wedge V-8 engine with 11:1 compression and date-coded 1963 dual Carter AFB 4-barrel carburetors atop the notorious cross-ram intake manifold.

The massive high-flow cast iron exhaust manifolds are here, as is the Prestolite cast-iron dual-point distributor to spark the Sunoco 260 on Saturday evening. It is backed by the TorqueFlite automatic transmission with the inline “typewriter” pushbutton shifter in the dash and a 3.91 Sure Grip 8.75 rear end. This car features a Medium Blue Metallic exterior with a white soft top, trim-enhanced white accent striping and premium Polara 500-exclusive moldings. The inside is near identical in two-tone blue and ivory, with the interior featuring bucket seats and a center console without the shifter, a power convertible top, tinted windshield, pushbutton radio and chrome befitting an early 1960s deluxe vehicle package. The exterior gives little away that this is a concealed weapon, besides the loop at idle and factory-capped exhaust cutouts barely visible beneath the rocker areas.
