Vehicle Description

1970 Mustang Boss 302 Shelby, Real Boss 302 Engine, Shelby Dual Four Barrel, Coil-over Front and Rear Suspension, and Six Speed Transmission

Engine: The engine is an original 1970 Boss 302. I’ve owned this engine since 1972. It is a DOZE block with 4.000 bore (not over-bored), four bolt mains, and screw-in freeze plugs. The pad where the serial number goes is blank. It has been balanced and blueprinted. It has the stock Boss 302 solid lifter cam, stock Boss 302 steel crank, stainless steel valves, Crane springs, titanium retainers, Crane roller rockers, and stock Boss 302 heads. It also has a real Shelby dual four barrel manifold with two 450 cfm Holley carburetors. To fit the new chassis, I added a late model dual sump oil pan and modified a set of Sanderson 351C headers, which I had ceramic coated. The remainder of the exhaust is 2 1/2” stainless steel by MagnaFlow. The engine is dressed with a serpentine belt system and Shelby valve covers and air cleaner.

Transmission: Tremec T-56 six speed transmission with hydraulic clutch and reverse lockout activation on T-handle shifter.

Rear End: Ford 9” with 4:11 gears and limited slip differential mounted on a Rod and Custom Motorsports four bar rear suspension with Aldan coil-over shocks and rear sway bar. In sixth gear the engine turns 2300 rpm at 70 mph.

Front End: The front suspension is a Power Suspension Module from Fatman Fabrications. It is an integrated cross-braced tubular structure that replaces the shock towers, front frame rails, and suspension. It incorporates coil-over McPherson Struts, polished stainless steel lower control arms, power rack and pinion steering, Wilwood 12” disc brakes, and removable inner fender panels. I modified it to fit the 1970 Mustang body. This allowed me to mount the aluminum Griffin radiator at an angle parallel to the late model police interceptor fan and clutch.

Body: Starting with an “F” code 1970 Sport Roof, outwardly the body appears stock. The only modification is where I removed the backup lights from the rear valence. Backup light comes from the LEDs on the license plate frame. The body has no rust. The front half of the passenger floor pan, the driver’s floor pan and seat riser have been replaced. The floors have been coated with POR15. To fit the T-56 transmission in the floor tunnel, I moved both the engine and transmission down about an inch and back about 2 inches. This required fabricating both the motor mounts and the transmission mount, and setting the firewall back about an inch. This provided needed hood clearance and put the Hurst shift handle in the stock location. The fender lips are rolled front and rear. The paint is 05 Mustang Chrome Yellow base coat-clear coat in very good condition for a driven car.
