EXPERIENCE Launched for the 2012 model year, Porsches new
911-series cars were internally designated Type 991 and while
externally similar to their predecessors, they marked a major
redesign with a myriad of updates and improvements in the finest
Porsche tradition. While the basic 911 Carrera was already a
formidable performer with 350 horsepower from its 3.4-liter flat-6
powerplant, the Carrera S raised the bar with 400 horsepower on tap
from its larger-displacement 3.8-liter powerplant. Other S features
included a special quad-outlet sports exhaust system with
driver-controlled flaps. A longer-wheelbase chassis improved
passenger comfort and brought updated front and rear suspension
systems, plus new electro-mechanical power steering with active
self-alignment. Also available for the first time was sharpened,
flatter cornering with Porsche Dynamic Chassis control (PDCC). From
introduction, the 997-generation Porsche 911 quickly established an
